Our mission is to provide the York Region and surrounding communities with the highest quality in assessment and treatment of a broad range of sleep disorders.

The York Region Sleep Disorders Centre first opened its doors in 1995. The lab has consistently grown over the years, recently expanding to 12 beds with its relocation to the third floor of the newly constructed Oak Ridges Medical Centre.

It boasts nothing but ‘state of the art’ equipment across nine fully equipped bedrooms, each with their own private washrooms. This growth is not only a testimony to the growing population within York Region but also due to the increased awareness of sleep disorders in general. For many, deep restorative sleep, the kind we all want, need and never seem to get enough of, is often lost as we wander aimlessly through many hours of insomnia. In turn, this can affect growth and our ability to fight off dangerous infections. For others, it is loud snoring with associated breathing stoppages during the night that often interrupt what could otherwise be a restful sleep. When this is combined with feelings of excessive daytime sleepiness and witnessed pauses in breathing (apnea) there is an over ninety percent chance that one may be suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. The result is an increased risk for the development of high blood pressure, heart palpitations, heart attack, stroke and fatal daytime accidents secondary to fatigue (e.g. while driving a car). Still other more subtle findings such as poor memory and concentration as well as depression and anxiety may be associated with untreated sleep apnea. Thankfully, the doctors of York Region Sleep Disorders Centre stand ready to help you tackle not just the above noted sleep disorders but any one of over eighty-three other diagnosable sleep disorders.

Appointments can be made through a referral from your Family Doctor.
